This company traces its roots back to Edouard Heuer, who patented his first chronograph in 1882. In 1887, he patented an ‘oscillating pinion’ that is still used by major watchmakers of mechanical chronographs. Throughout the 21st century, Heuer manufactured chronographs for cars and airplanes, including chronographs with full calendar functions. .
In 1962, Heuer became the first Swiss watchmaker in space. John Glenn wore a Heuer stopwatch when he piloted the Mercury Atlas 6 spacecraft on the first US manned space flight to orbit the earth. Tag is also known for developing the world’s first automatic chronograph. In 1985, a high-tech ceramics company called TAG bought Heuer.
